Kintsugi - the beauty in our cracks

I got inspired from a book I read, God Never Gives Up on You by Max Lucado, so decided to share this piece - Kintsugi is an ancient Japanese art developed as a unique way to repair broken pottery. This art form repairs the shattered pottery not by hiding  the cracks but highlighting them. Okay, think of a ceramic plate shattered on the floor, an ordinary eye would safely pack the ruins and discard, a Kintsugi artist ? oh yes, sees an opportunity to showcase his skill. The artist uses a mixture of gloss adhesive and gold to gently mend the fractures. The result is always something so aesthetically beautiful pleasing and unique, lines of gold winding its way across the pottery. This restored pottery would tell a story of its crack and the redemption, usually more gorgeous than its original state.

The philosophy of the art calls for seeing beauty in life experiences, through its imperfections and an acceptance of change, once mended the flaw is transformed to a one-of-a kind appearance. The same belief runs in the Christian faith, if broken, its not the end, it’s a time of Kintsugi - an opportunity for Christ our Potter to begin a golden redemptive arc. He never gives up on us ! so why should you. The result, an amazing joy to behold.
